  • The Housing Hope Executive Board named Kathryn Opina as the new chief executive officer for Housing Hope and HopeWorks yesterday — her appointment became effective on September 1st. Opina, who served as interim chief for six months, will work with the board to guide the agency's operations.  My Everett News
  • Habitat for Humanity of Snohomish County will host its Raise the Roof fundraiser Sept. 27 from 5—8:30 p.m. at Lynnwood Event Center featuring dinner and a silent auction with $95 tickets designed to help raise $150,000 for safe, affordable housing.  Everett Herald
  • Everett's Downtown Everett Late Shift is a new nightlife platform organized by local business owners and the Everett Music Initiative—designed to add more events after dark. It will feature a monthly First Friday celebration starting Oct. 3 with live music, pop-up art, and more to make downtown vibrant and safe.  Everett Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Stanwood Police Chief Jason Toner said the jail spending of $53,078 from a $59,482 budget may push costs close to $70,000 by the end of 2025—raising concerns over rising costs from longer stays and repeat offenders. City Administrator Shawn Smith confirmed the extra funds will come from the general fund with no tax increase expected.  Everett Herald
