CULTURE NEWS

  • Schacktoberfest 2025 begins at Schack Art Center in Downtown Everett as local artists display over 100 fall-themed works and a glass pumpkin patch shows 1000 pumpkins—attendees 21 and older participate in events like silent auctions, live music, and a costume contest during the Pints event.  My Everett News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Everett city staff shared measures to close a $7.9 million budget gap for 2026 by proposing cuts to pension contributions, street overlays, human needs grants, and planned maintenance while using about $4.8 million in remaining COVID relief dollars. City officials also plan to use other revenues to support essential services, and the final budget will be voted on December 4.  Everett Herald
  • The Everett City Council approved a resolution by a 6 to 1 vote on Wednesday that rebuked Kroger for planning to close the South Everett Fred Meyer store on Evergreen Way in mid-October, and Mayor Cassie Franklin backed the decision. The resolution calls the planned closure corporate neglect—police records show shoplifting cases have dropped over the years.  Everett Herald
  • The Snohomish County Council held a public hearing on the North Lake annexation that started on September 17 and extended it to September 24 at 10:30 a.m.—council members voted unanimously to postpone the resolution to allow more community input.  Everett Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • Compass Health opened its new Marc Healing Center on September 18 — a 72,000 square-foot facility on Broadway that offers two 16-bed units for evaluation and crisis care. It aims to serve about 1,500 people a year and ease pressure on first responders and hospitals.  Everett Post
