- ➤ The DNR announced on Thursday that it is transferring almost 70 acres of state trust land along the Stillaguamish River to the Stillaguamish Tribe for salmon restoration—covering floodplain and channel migration zones between Oso and Darrington. The state will receive $174,000 to buy replacement properties for designated beneficiaries. Everett Herald

- ➤ Snohomish County Executive Dave Somers has appointed Kim VanPelt as the new director of the health department—she will start on Oct. 20, and the County Council will soon vote to confirm her appointment after a national search. Everett Herald
