- ➤ Downtown businesses in Everett are teaming up under the name Late Shift Everett to host monthly 'First Friday' events starting Oct. 3—aiming to boost the city's nightlife and draw more visitors to the downtown core. The city will also improve lighting, trees, and pedestrian safety in the area as part of the effort. Everett Herald

- ➤ The state Department of Fish and Wildlife banned all recreational fishing on the Snohomish River from its mouth to the join of the Skykomish and Snoqualmie rivers since Sept. 20 to protect Chinook salmon — the ban ends at Halloween. Snohomish County Tribune

- ➤ After a heated hearing yesterday, the Snohomish County Council voted 3 to 2 to let Snohomish annex the 241-acre North Lake Urban Growth Area even as many North Ridge residents said they would not benefit—state review is needed before the annexation takes effect and water services remain unchanged.
