CULTURE NEWS

  • Thatcher Johnson has spent three years building a life-size replica of a B-17 bomber cockpit in his north Everett garage using materials from local hardware stores and detailed blueprints, and he continues to add intricate details. He will donate the finished cockpit to a museum to honor World War II legacy—an endeavor that connects local history with national pride.  Everett Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Everett’s Whittier Elementary was set to be honored as a National Blue Ribbon school but the Department of Education canceled the program in August—district officials expressed disappointment while celebrating the school’s achievements at a local ceremony.  Everett Herald
  • Everett Public Schools’ Whittier Elementary was named a National Blue Ribbon School—one of the nation’s highest honors for academic excellence—and is the first district school to earn the award. School leaders celebrated with balloons and cupcakes on Sept. 26—recognizing the dedicated work of staff and students.  My Everett News

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Snohomish County Council voted unanimously Wednesday to begin transferring Totem Beach Road and Mission Creek Bridge to the Tulalip Tribes after discussions began in 2024— the road will remain open to all as the tribe plans to take over maintenance.  Everett Herald
  • WA 211 will be managed by Crisis Connections in King County as a centralized call center starting Oct. 1 — a change driven by a 66% funding cut that consolidates five regional centers into one system. Regional offices will remain active through September to ensure that residents continue to receive help during the transition.  Snohomish County Tribune
