  • Community volunteers updated Garfield Elementary School's playground on Sept. 12 by painting murals, building four square courts, and adding a buddy bench, sensory walk, and decorative paw prints—part of a project with Give & Grow that enhanced the school’s play areas.  Everett Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • The Sno-Isle Sierra Club chapter is hosting a Zoom call today from 7 to 8 p.m. to discuss the proposed repeal of the Roadless Rule and efforts to protect public lands in Snohomish County and western Washington — co-chairs Nancy Johnson, Cynthia Jones and League of Women Voters leader Kate Lunceford will lead the discussion on how Climate Commitment Act funds may shape local forest policies.  Everett Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Snohomish County projects received a portion of $67 million in grants from the Washington State Recreation and Conservation Office—funding a boardwalk along Union Slough, field lighting upgrades at Darrington High School, conservation of eagle habitats in Lake Stevens, and playfield lighting in Mountlake Terrace.  Everett Herald
  • Tim Ryker has been named the new Chief of Seaport Operations at the Port of Everett effective Oct. 1 following the announcement of longtime COO Carl Wollebek's planned retirement on Jan. 1—Ryker joined as Director of Marine Terminals in April and brings over 20 years of maritime experience to lead the port's largest business line.  My Everett News
