  • Community Transit is hosting the 'Design Together, Discover Together' Youth Art Contest for Snohomish County kids aged 5–18 with entries accepted through October 20; winning artwork will be shown on a bus and winners will receive gift cards in three age groups.  My Everett News
  • Everett residents now have a new way to tell time in Lions Park as former professor James Stegenga donated a concrete sundial—featuring a triangular metal gnomon from a local shop and a Washington state design with dots for major cities—that city staff installed.  Everett Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • High school seniors in Snohomish and Island counties began a new maritime program on Sept. 8 through a pilot partnership among Port of Everett—Maritime Institute and Sno-Isle TECH Skills Center. The program will let students earn full credentials for entry-level maritime careers when they graduate.  Everett Post

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • North Sound trees show vibrant fall colors today along I-90’s Snoqualmie Pass, Stevens Pass Highway and North Cascades Highway, but cool, rainy weather will arrive Wednesday—limiting the time to enjoy fall foliage before storms strip the leaves away.  Everett Post
  • Adopt A Stream Foundation is hosting two events on Saturday at the Northwest Stream Center. Audubon Society master birder Gale Boyer will lead a bird walk from 10 a.m. to noon and bat researcher Barbara Ogaard will present on bats at 1 p.m.—guests in costume will receive a free salmon poster.  Everett Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • The Community Transit Board changed its rules on Thursday to clarify how it will enforce conduct and extend them to include Zip Shuttle services & to add due process steps such as warnings and appeals. The updated code does not change the list of prohibited actions but sets clear guidelines for handling minor and severe offenses to keep staff and riders safe.  Everett Herald

HEALTH NEWS

  • On Monday, Overlake Medical Center & Clinics and MultiCare Health System opened a new neighborhood emergency department in Lynnwood at 3011 196th St. SW. The 11,000-square-foot facility offers 12 exam rooms, radiology services—a testing lab and pharmacy services—and is open 24 hours.  Everett Herald
