COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Everett youth aged 5-18 can enter Community Transit's Design Together, Discover Together art contest until Oct-20 for a chance to have their artwork on local buses - entries must be original and may be submitted online or by mail. The contest theme is riding transit with friends.  Everett Herald

CULTURE NEWS

  • A self-guided glass art exhibition is coming to downtown Everett, inviting visitors to tour storefronts where 10 local artists display pieces available for purchase to support them. The Downtown Everett Association has organized the exhibit, Glass in Everett: A Window Exhibition of Glass Art—running from Oct. 16 to Dec. 31.  Everett Post

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • At a meeting on Sept. 23, planning commissioners voted eight to one to reject the map change proposal to expand the Maltby urban growth area because speakers said the plan would cut open space. The County Council will review the matter later—officials note that a similar proposal was vetoed before.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • Candidates for mayor, city council, and school board will attend a forum on Thursday at 6:30 p.m. in the Weyerhaeuser Room at Everett Station + the event is hosted by the Everett Council of Neighborhoods to let residents ask their questions.  Everett Herald
  • Everett school bus drivers working for Durham School Services may strike if disputes over wages, benefits, and DOT medical clearances remain unresolved—negotiations resume on October 15. Both the union and the school district said backup plans are in place to keep bus service running.  Snohomish County Tribune

SPORTS NEWS

  • The Everett Silvertips won 7-1 over the Tri-Cities Americans on Oct. 3 and 9-4 against the Victoria Royals on Oct. 4, with fights in the first game and a hat trick by Shea Busch in the second while debut goalie Finn Werner held well. They also beat Tri-Cities 5-3 in an away game on Oct. 5 at Kennewick—showing strong team play in back-to-back matchups.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • Glacier Peak beat the Kamiak Knights 1-0 on Oct. 2 when a goal in the final 10 minutes decided the match at Kamiak’s home field—Glacier Peak is 3-3-1 so far and will face Jackson at Everett Memorial Stadium on Oct. 9 before playing in Snohomish on Oct. 14.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • In a game against Glacier Peak, Lake Stevens quarterback Blake Moser rushed for a touchdown on the opening drive and threw for 245 yards along with two passing and two rushing touchdowns—showing his strong play for his team.  Snohomish County Tribune
