- ➤ Homage Senior Services named Jay Kang as its new chief executive today — he brings over 30 years of nonprofit leadership experience — and will move its headquarters from Lynnwood to 1715 100th Place SE in Everett to expand its services for older adults and people with disabilities. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ On September 18, teenagers gathered at Schack Art Center in downtown Everett for Teen Night, where graffiti artist AYE147 led a spray painting lesson as part of the Art and Friendship Club’s effort to help students express their feelings through art. The club—a five-year partnership between the center and Everett Public Schools funded by a PSTAA grant—serves about 100 students annually with weekly six-week sessions that include a field trip at the end. - ➤ The Lynnwood Police Department’s Women Empowered program offers free self-defense classes at PandaRoll JiuJitsu at 1 p.m. every other Saturday to teach techniques that help protect against common threats—participants have sessions for all ages with the next class on Oct. 18. Everett Herald
GOVERNMENT NEWS
- ➤ Snohomish County hosted an open house on Oct. 9 to present plans for a Food and Farming Center in McCollum Park that will help local farmers process, store, and sell food — the project will serve farmers from Snohomish, Whatcom, Skagit and King counties. County officials said construction will begin near the end of 2026 on the $60 million center that will replace the park’s aging pool and boost year-round market access. Everett Herald
