- ➤ Everett-based Helion Energy got approval Tuesday from a Chelan County hearing examiner to build a fusion power plant in Malaga—this permit clears a 100,000-square-foot fusion generation building, a 55,000-square-foot substation, and a 26,800-square-foot assembly building that will power Microsoft data centers by the end of 2028. The company broke ground in July and is expanding its Everett operations by leasing a new manufacturing facility for reactor components. Everett Herald

- ➤ A mother sued the Edmonds School District after her 10-year-old son's fingertip was severed when a teacher closed a metal door at Cedar Way Elementary in Mountlake Terrace in 2023—she claims the school did not follow his safety plans. - ➤ Everett Public Schools announced that a special election ballot on Feb. 10 will include a School Construction Bond seeking nearly $400 million for a new elementary school and infrastructure repairs and an Education Levy renewal to support staff and programs.
