COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Funding for the SNAP program will freeze on Nov 1, leaving nearly 930,000 Washington residents to stretch food budgets as Everett food banks already report low supplies — with local officials warning of tougher choices ahead. Food bank leaders expect increased demand because contingency funds will not be available to boost dwindling stocks.  Everett Post

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • Firefighters fought a house fire Tuesday morning in Monroe that forced six residents and eight dogs to leave — no one was hurt — while the Snohomish County Fire Marshal's Office investigates the cause and the home is lost.  Everett Herald

EDUCATION NEWS

  • Today, the Aspen Institute named Everett Community College as one of 200 U.S. community colleges eligible for a $1 million prize based on strong student outcomes — EvCC will soon submit an application and join a review process that ends with an award announcement in spring. The review will assess retention, graduation, transfer, and bachelor's rates to highlight effective practices.  My Everett News

  • Snohomish County PUD released a new outage map today that lets customers zoom in for detailed information such as estimated restoration times, outage causes — and customer impact, all based on user feedback to better prepare for storm season. Customers can also sign up for proactive outage text messages through their MySnoPUD profile.  My Everett News
  • Community Transit in Everett proposes an 18% boost in transit service for 2026—27 with more bus trips and an expanded Zip Shuttle service. The plan adds 14 Transit Security Officers, installs driver barrier doors in coaches, and upgrades bus stops—public comments are open until Nov. 14.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • Snohomish County will host its 20th Focus on Farming & Forestry Conference on November 5 at Evergreen State Fair Park in Monroe — doors open at 7 a.m. for an all-day event with 28 breakout sessions and two keynote speeches — and a farm-to-table lunch prepared by Chef Russell Lowell will be served.  Snohomish County Tribune

  • On Oct 25 at Angel of the Winds Arena, the Penticton Vees beat the Everett Silvertips 7-0 in a game that saw a fight between Silvertip Henri Ament and a Vees player—marked by goalie changes and many shots on goal. The game was held as Pink the Rink night to honor breast cancer survivors.  Snohomish County Tribune
  • On Oct 24, Everett Seagulls beat Cascade Bruins 53-2 at Memorial Stadium with a 40-0 halftime score that featured junior quarterback Kai Schmidt. The team holds a 2-4 league record and 4-4 overall and will play Stanwood on Oct 31—adding a key matchup to their schedule.  Snohomish County Tribune
