- ➤ Amazon cut over 2,300 jobs in Washington and 14,000 nationwide this week to free up capital for building data centers and using artificial intelligence—some employees warned that increased reliance on AI might lead to further job changes. Workers have raised concerns that the push for AI could impact work quality and safety in the near future. KUOW
- ➤ Chick-fil-A Soper Hill opens today at 6:30 a.m. at 8703 Soper Hill Road in North Lake Stevens and southeast Marysville—led by local Owner-Operator Chandler Reeves. The restaurant creates about 80 jobs, donates $25,000 to the Lake Stevens Community Food Bank, and offers a free entrée to guests in cow print on opening day. My Everett News
- ➤ Value retailer Five Below will open at Everett Mall 10 a.m. Friday, Nov. 7—replacing Party City and adding to the mall's ongoing renovation to attract more shoppers. Over the summer, Five Below announced its takeover of seven Party City leases across Washington. Everett Post

- ➤ Voters in the Edmonds and Northshore school districts will decide on replacement levies and a capital bond on Feb. 10 to support educational programs, school safety improvements, and facility upgrades & technology. The measures will extend funding for teaching, extracurricular activities, transportation, and classroom enhancements through 2030 and beyond. Everett Herald
- ➤ Everett teacher Ian Brown said it is fine for kids to feel frustrated by math and gave simple tips like counting and drawing to help ease worry & build understanding. He also wrote a comic book called 'I Hate Math' that uses humor to explain math & ease anxiety. Everett Herald
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Washington Department of Ecology is asking agriculturalists to review the new chapters of its Voluntary Clean Water Guidance for Agriculture and submit feedback online. A webinar at 10 a.m. on Nov. 5 will explain the updated practices—covering ways to control runoff, manage fertilizers and pesticides—with input from state agencies and tribal partners. Everett Herald

- ➤ The Washington State Department of Commerce will host free federal grant writing workshops in November to help eligible groups apply for clean energy grants. - ➤ Tuesday evening, coworkers began CPR and used an AED before firefighters arrived to rescue an unresponsive ferry worker from a confined space at the Port of Everett—firefighters then extricated him with a Stokes basket and transported him to Providence Regional Medical Center in critical condition.
