EDUCATION NEWS

  • Adopt A Stream Foundation and Alderleaf Wilderness College will host an introductory wildlife tracking class at 1 p.m. Saturday at the Northwest Stream Center at 600-128th Street SE in Everett—Jason Knight will teach participants to identify common wildlife foot tracks and signs, and the session costs $8 for members and $10 for general admission with proceeds supporting environmental education.  Everett Herald

ENVIRONMENT NEWS

  • Almost all endangered southern resident killer whales gathered in central Puget Sound on Sunday but the newborn J64 was missing—researchers noted that J64’s mother, J42, had been seen without her calf in October and concluded the calf did not survive. This loss is the second J Pod baby death in two months, adding to worries about the health of the orca population.  KUOW

HEALTH NEWS

  • Everett — Health Department officials confirmed that a Snohomish County woman was hospitalized in early October and is now recovering as the only Washington case in a multistate listeria outbreak linked to ready-to-eat pasta meals. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention reports 27 cases across 18 states with six deaths, and officials advise consumers to throw away recalled items.  Everett Herald
