- ➤ A third Pallet shelter site will open in December at Sievers Duecy Blvd. and Glenwood Ave to provide temporary housing for single women and their children. The location, managed by Volunteers of America of Western Washington, will include 20 Pallet units plus two office buildings and a community building plus laundry and restroom facilities, and the city allocated $2.7 million in recovery funds. EDUCATION NEWS
- ➤ Early Tuesday evening results reported at 8 p.m. show that incumbents Malory Simpson (64.9%), Mark Tomas (55.7%) and Craig Hereth (59.9%) are leading in races for three Marysville School Board seats. The contest focuses on the district’s budget challenges including an $18 million projected deficit and efforts to build community trust, with final results set to be certified on November 25. - ➤ Early results show that incumbents in two board races for Everett Public Schools held large leads while one contest remained extremely close with only 92 votes separating the top candidates—ballots will be counted this week and results certified November 25 in a district serving over 20,000 students with a $441 million budget. - ➤ U.S. Army Corps of Engineers officials began maintenance dredging at Everett Harbor and the Snohomish River project on November 4, with operations running 24/7 until Feb. 14 to remove 40,000 cubic yards of sediment from the lower channel and 150,000 cubic yards from the upper basin and deposit it at designated sites; boaters are advised to slow down and steer on the marina side—timing restrictions aim to protect out-migrating juvenile salmonids.
