- ➤ Marysville veteran Roger Sharp recalled how the USS Belknap collided with the USS John F. Kennedy on November 22, 1975, triggering a massive fire that injured 48 and killed 8 sailors—seven on the Belknap and one on the Kennedy. He described how his crew battled the intense flames and heavy smoke—using every available method to save the ship amid exploding fuel and chaos. Everett Herald
