Good morning, Everett. Here's your local news at a glance for Wednesday, the 3rd of December.

COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Snohomish County cold weather shelters opened yesterday and remain available when temperatures drop to 34°F or below—free bus rides from Community Transit and Everett Transit help residents reach the seven shelters while libraries and senior centers serve as warming centers during the day. Last winter, the shelters provided 6,468 bed nights with the busiest night sheltering 260 individuals on Feb. 16.  Everett Post
  • Christmas House, a free toy shop started in 1981, will open tomorrow at the Everett Boys and Girls Club gym at 2316 12th St to give over 50,000 toys and gifts to children in low-income families. Families can choose one large toy, one small toy, a stuffed animal, gloves, and a book—plus they may enter for a chance to win one of about 150 bicycles—as nearly 800 volunteers run the event from Dec. 4 through Dec. 20.  Snohomish County Tribune

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Five Below, a Philadelphia-based chain, opened a new store at Everett Mall—taking over the former Party City spot that closed last December as the mall undergoes a redesign. Early shoppers have given mixed reviews, with some comparing it to Target while others felt some prices were above expectations.  My Everett News
