- ➤ Volunteers of America Western Washington will host Stuff the Bus at Snohomish Station Shopping Center on Dec. 20 from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Volunteers outside Fred Meyer will collect new gifts and hygiene products to support families hit by flooding+ the drive partners with Snohomish County and Community Transit. - ➤ After pieces of the iconic Pacific Stone sign were removed, the Everett Housing Authority is forming a community-led committee to design a new sign that honors its history while welcoming fresh ideas (the sign previously stood near Rucker Ave). Snohomish County Tribune
- ➤ Frostb!te Frenzy 2, held at Lucky Dime from Friday, Dec. 19 to Saturday, Dec. 20, will fund emergency stabling at Evergreen State Fairgrounds to aid flood-impacted residents after Gov. Ferguson reported up to 100,000 evacuation orders; funds were redirected from support for BAC due to severe flooding. Everett Post
- ➤ Bethany Compassion Center (BCC) on Broadway between 14th and 15th streets provides vital support by offering free weekend meals for 600 local students, a free laundry program, a food pantry, and ESL classes. It partners with a weekly medical clinic and plans to expand outreach with the Annual Summer Bash. Snohomish County Tribune
ENVIRONMENT NEWS
- ➤ The Snohomish River reached a record 34.15 feet on Thursday afternoon after heavy rains from an atmospheric river flooded neighborhoods and prompted evacuations. Emergency crews rescued residents + closed roads as recovery efforts began. Snohomish County Tribune
- ➤ Scientists reported after a record warm fall that drought pressure is rising across the Northwest, with low snowpack affecting Washington (including Everett). Recent rains helped fill reservoirs, but continued low snow may impact winter water supplies. KUOW
- ➤ A wind storm knocked out power to over 51,500 customers in Snohomish County on Tuesday night. Crews worked to repair downed lines and clear roads as schools in Marysville and Stanwood-Camano districts faced closures or delays due to hazardous conditions from fallen trees + power lines. - ➤ Cleanup crews recovered 2,631 gallons of fuel from a leak in the Olympic Pipeline in a farm field ditch east of Everett on Dec. 9, discovered on Nov. 11. BP fixed the leak’s source, but cleanup is ongoing (weather delays progress) as soil and water testing continues. Snohomish County Tribune

- ➤ Strong northwesterly winds knocked down trees and a transmission pole on Camano Island and NW Snohomish overnight. Thirty-four PUD crews are restoring power for about 51,200 customers; mutual aid crews are en route, and PUD staff is at Camano Commons Marketplace today (10 a.m. to 2 p.m.) for updates. - ➤ Snohomish County has launched a voucher program for residents affected by December floods to dispose of flood-damaged household items for free at designated waste facilities. Residents can pick up vouchers at local sites such as the American Red Cross and county courthouse until Jan. 18. Snohomish County Tribune
