COMMUNITY NEWS

  • Travel writer Rick Steves purchased the Lynnwood Hygiene Center property last Wednesday & the Jean Kim Foundation will keep using it for free to support those experiencing homelessness. The only hygiene center in south Snohomish County had been set to close on Dec. 12 before the deal was reached.  Everett Herald
  • Community Transit + Volunteers of America Western Washington are hosting a Stuff-a-Bus donation event on Saturday to collect new clothes, unwrapped Christmas gifts, and gift cards for flood relief in Snohomish County. The event runs from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Snohomish Station Shopping Center in Snohomish.  Everett Herald
  • Galaxy Theatres Monroe is offering free movie tickets to families displaced by the flooding at 1 Galaxy Way. The theater is coordinating with local nonprofit Take the Next Step — to manage holiday donations after space limits forced a temporary pause on drop-offs.  Everett Herald

ACCIDENTS NEWS

  • On Wednesday, Dec. 17, Everett Fire responded to a detached garage fire on Highland Avenue where lithium-ion batteries charging for several RC cars triggered heavy black smoke; crews controlled the blaze within 30 minutes (no injuries were reported).  My Everett News

BUSINESS NEWS

  • Frontier Airlines will stop flights from Paine Field in early January as no tickets will be sold after Jan 5. The carrier, which began service in June less than seven months ago, may return later (according to a spokesperson).  Everett Herald

GOVERNMENT NEWS

  • Everett City Council approved $940K for Garfield Park renovations; construction on a new playground with slides, climbers, a zip track ride, and swings will begin in late spring or early fall 2026 in the Riverside neighborhood — the update follows community input.  Everett Herald
  • LifeWise Academy, an off-campus Bible education program near Emerson Elementary, sued Everett Public Schools on Thursday, alleging its First Amendment rights were violated by policies that limited event participation and imposed weekly parental consent requirements. The district denied the allegations, stating its policies comply with legal standards.  Everett Herald
