If you ride the bus in Everett, a big change is coming. The Everett City Council and the board voted unanimously this week to fold , the city's own agency since 1969, into Community Transit. The city will stop running transit on April 1, 2027.

That same day, the transit sales tax in Everett rises from 0.6% to 1.2%. In return, a Community Transit news release promises 50% more bus service in Everett by 2031, with more frequent buses and earlier and later trips.

  • on-demand zone: planned for Everett by spring 2028
  • Paratransit: current Everett customers keep eligibility and service area
  • Everett Transit staff: jobs at Community Transit or with the city
  • Service expansions: planned to start in early 2028

Not everyone's convinced. Residents pushed back at Wednesday's council meeting, and union talks for Everett Transit employees are still ahead. The merger is also meant to reduce transfers across Snohomish County.
